DRIVER ID – FOB  SYSTEM through GPS

What is Driver ID?

Driver ID provides the ability to identify which driver is driving which vehicle and produce all the relevant driver and vehicle information reports associated. To support this, each driver requires a fob to be registered to them which connects with the reader which is fitted inside the vehicle.

How does Driver ID work?

A reader is attached to the vehicle and each driver is assigned a fob that they use to login when they enter the vehicle. This is done by placing the fob over the reader which registers the driver.

When the READER is flashing RED, the vehicle is in the starter disable mode (aka cannot start mode). Once a driver gets into the vehicle and passes the FOB over the reader (driver login), ignition will be possible for up to 30 seconds.

  • NOTE: If ignition is not initiated within the 30 second time frame, the READER will flash red again and the driver will need to FOB in again.

Why would I need it?

There are several benefits of choosing to use Driver ID Fobs for your vehicles;

  • Working hours and timesheets for each driver
  • Journey history reports specific to each driver
  • Driver performance reports specific to each driver
  • Ensure the right driver is on duty

By having access to individual driver performance reports you will know which drivers are best and worst, and be able to take appropriate action to improve driver performance. It is beneficial to know these Telematics and GPS Vehicle Tracking metrics as a driver who has a low performance score is costing you more and by improving their score not only will they be driver safer, they will also reduce your annual fuel and maintenance costs.

What equipment do you need?

To enable Driver ID, users must have at least one of each component;

  • 1 Reader
  • Fobs
  • GPS Device

What does each piece of equipment do?

  • Reader – fitted inside the vehicle and used to read the serial number of each fob to obtain driver information
  • Fob – used by drivers to login to the vehicle
  • GPS Device (usually a Calamp LMU-2630) to retrieve the information and place it onto the platform for the customers evaluation

How do you set up Driver ID Fobs?

Driver ID is an add-on provided with GPS TRACKING CENTRE. When a customer requests a DIVER ID system, we pre-program the GPS and FOB units for them before installation. Once installed, the customer can still change the name on the FOB through their platform.

On the Upper Right of your platform- Go to Settings –

settings location

On the right.. click on Driver ID-

driver ID

If your FOB’s have been set up and entered in to the system, you can then choose which one to EDIT and click on EDIT

Now you will see a screen like this:

It is best to leave the  DRIVER ID info in place but you can adjust the Name and other. Also, to be sure that that TIME ZONE is correct, check the STATE / PROV info for accuracy (British Columbia?)

Want to add a driver PICTURE? You can do this but it will be small

Be sure to SAVE by clicking on “Update Driver”

Reports?

As with the rest of the platform, your reports can be retrieved based on the type of report required and going back 1 year from the date you are at. For DRIVER REPORTS, go to REPORTS located on the platform–see below

Scroll down to the drop-down list to “DRIVER TRACK REPORT”.. Choose the DATE RANGE- Driver – Units (if you have multiple units)- Generate

Starter enable/disable:

Our DRIVER ID- Reader System and Fob- can be scripted to utilize a starter relay. If this option is installed, the driver will have to FOB in each time they turned the ignition off. He / She will have 30 seconds after utilizing the FOB on the READER to initiate the vehicle ignition. After that, they will have to FOB in again.

BOTTOM LINE:

FLASHING RED means- you need to FOB in.

Solid Green means- the system recognizes the driver FOB ID and can proceed.
