“OUR EMPLOYEES REACTED TO THE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF GPS TRACKING IN OUR VEHICLES.”

Here is response that quite often helps when Employee react to GPS installation –Explain the Benefits.

The largest benefit of introducing a Fleet Management Solution is to achieve a “Change of Behavior” with the driver/tech/employee.

This means that:

  • A donut stop is a 10 minute procedure not 45 minutes with the engine running and the A/C on.

  • A 3 hour service call is about 3 hours not 6 hours because it is interrupted with a trip to the grocery store to pick up a few cases of pop and groceries for the weekend party.

  • Payroll begins when the vehicle has actually left the yard at 8:00 AM not 6:30 AM when we started the vehicle and let it idle for 90 minutes while we had a coffee and a news paper.

  • When we send a customer an invoice for 26 hours of service over a 1 month period, we don’t have a billing dispute as we can provide an accurate audit trail that shows we attended the location.

There can never be a “Change of Behavior” unless there is a company policy in place that clearly  which states what the expectations are and consequences of non-compliance. Our POLICY below can be changed to meet your wishes and this one may be a bit more stringent than what you want.

Here are some general rules:

  • Reduce speeding

  • Reduce unnecessary idling

  • Reduce unauthorized vehicle usage

  • Reduce payroll inaccuracies

  • Better routing

  • Eliminate billing disputes

  • Increase customer satisfaction

  • Better vehicle maintenance records

  • Reduced management costs

  • Increase safety

  • Better compliance.

  • A change in behaviour will help the company which in turns becomes a benefit to the employees.

Introducing GPS Tracking to Employees

Here is an example of a Company Policy:

NOTICE TO ALL TECHNICIANS

In an effort to become more efficient and provide our valued customers with a higher standard of service we will be implementing a gps tracking system. This will allow us to dispatch the nearest technician to a service call or route the nearest truck to another in cases of emergency. This will greatly reduce the number of phone calls that are made to technicians while they are driving to find their location. This system will also help our accounting department in terms of payroll and help reduce the amount of paper work.

Our goal is to simply be better at what we do by implementing this new technology. Please note that we ask your support in embracing this new technology by being mindful of excessive idling, speeding and especially your time management. Our intention is to use this as a tool to enhance our productivity and not that of any kind of punishment. We ask that you respect your vehicles and your work by not engaging in any kind of activity that would jeopardize your ability to be the best for our customers.

In the event that a vehicle is found to be excessively idling more than 3 times in a 1 week period the driver would be required to explain why it was necessary for the vehicle to be idling.

In the event that a vehicle is found to be excessively speeding more than 3 times in a 1 week period the driver would be required to explain why it was necessary for the vehicle to be speeding.

In the event that a vehicle is found to be at a location that was not a work related location more than 1 time in a 1 week period the driver would be required to explain why it was necessary for the vehicle to be at that location.

In the event that a driver is required to explain more than 4 exception events in a one moth period the driver would be placed on probation. Should this occur 2 months in a row the driver may be given a termination of employment.

In the event that any technician is found to have only one exceptions per month a $50.00 gift certificate will be provided each moth.
